Helpful Tips:

1. With the exception of bananas, buy frozen fruit. It won't spoil, organic is usually cheaper and it makes the smoothies nice and cold.

2. Always opt for alcohol free vanilla. You're not baking so the alcohol is not evaporated. Alcohol is harmful for the liver and dehydrates the body.

3. Check the latest dirty dozen lists. You do not have to buy all organic but in general, opt for organic berries and leafy greens.

4. Avoid using yogurt, kefir, or plant milks in smoothies. I use almond milk every now and then for a "desert smoothie" but for all other smoothies I use water. Why? Fruit blends best with other fruit and water. Fruit should not be mixed with dairy or heavy fats. It is absorbed better by the body on its own.

5. Stick with fruits you know you like! Take these recipes as a starting point, try new things and find what you like best.
